CHILDREN AND DOGS:
Your Shih Tzu puppy is NOT a toy.
Be sure and supervise small children with a puppy. A small Shih Tzu puppy should not be left with a small child unattended.
I advise that children be instructed to play with a puppy on its level (the
floor, ground), not carry the puppy around where it could easily be
accidentally dropped. A puppy can be hard to hold when squirming about and
could easily fall to the ground injuring itself. Remember the floor/ground
is the safest place for a small puppy. Your Shih Tzu puppy is NOT
to be left on a chair, couch or
bed. They have no sense or fear of heights and will fall, and could sustain
severe injury or death.
Shih Tzu are known for their wonderful temperaments, however don’t allow a child to interfere with their feeding, and be careful your child doesn’t interact with the puppy in a way the puppy would interpret as threatening or provoking. The Shih Tzu is one of the gentlest breeds, but we simply cannot assume any dog to be 100% passive.
